The Eagles Return to State Playoffs in Football

This Friday December 3, the Kentucky 2A state title will be a repeat of last year’s matchup. The LCA Eagles and Beechwood Tigers will face off at 4:00 pm at Kroger Field, and the Eagles are looking for revenge. Beechwood bested the team last year in overtime, and it is pumped to get another shot at them for the title.

It is not just the players who are excited about the game. The school is rallying behind this team as well. There is a half-day on Friday to allow students time to make it to the game by kickoff, and support is at an all time high. The cheerleading team made posters that are lining the halls, raising spirit for the big game.

Beechwood has brought back seniors from last year who opted into a 5th year of high-school, giving the school a lot of experience amongst their starters. One of these seniors is quarterback Cameron Hergott, who returned to school after winning Kentucky Mr. Football last year. Still, the Eagles have gotten better in the past year. With an extra year of experience for returning players, and the key additions of Jeremiah Riffle and Jay Emerson, the Eagles have a high-scoring offense and a lockdown defense that are primed to win state. After a 58-0 win against Middlesboro in the state semis, they will have to fight through a more skilled and more experienced team. Many reporters are considering this the best of the state games, and it is definitely a game that players, coaches, and fans will remember for years to come.
