Enthusiastic students dress in black for the Catholic game.

Last Friday, the Eagles hung on  in the annual ‘Holy War’  to beat UK commit Beau Allen and the Lexington Catholic Knights in the final seconds. Jayden Barnhardt, 12, had 6 total touchdowns, 3 rushing and 3 passing TDs to 3 different receivers. With 55 seconds on the clock, Jayden dialed up Will Vernon, 11, for a 20-yard Touchdown pass to cut the Lexington Catholic lead to 1, 42-41. Instead of kicking the PAT to tie the game, Coach Doug Charles went with a gutsy call to go for the two-point conversion to win the game. Jayden Barnhardt, 12, found Dearious Smith, 12, in the end zone to give the Eagles a 43-42 lead with just under a minute left to play. Beau Allen was able to drive the Knights down the field to give them a shot to win the game with a 36-yard field goal with 4 seconds to go. Everyone in the stadium waited anxiously for the kick. The center snapped the ball, the kicker got the kick off, the kick was… no good! The Eagles battled from behind to upset the Knights in a nail biting fashion.
