As the recruiting season comes to a close, Kentucky Basketball recruiting is still heating up. There were a few reclassifications these past few weeks that have put many high level college teams and coaches on notice. 2020 top five recruit R.J. Hampton has decided to reclassify to 2019 and graduate a year early. He will be playing Division I basketball as soon as this summer. He also cut his list of potential schools to four after his reclassification. That list includes Texas Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, and Memphis. He cut Duke from his list after his decision to reclassify. According to 247 Sports, Kansas is currently the favorite in his recruitment, but Memphis and Texas Tech are not far behind, and Kentucky is still in the mix but has not logged any picks from experts. Johnny Juzang also reclassified from the 2020 class to the 2019 class. He is also a UK target and Kentucky is the heavy favorite in his recruitment. 247 Sports is predicting that he goes to Kentucky, but Stanford, Oregon, Virginia, and Kansas are all still in the mix. There has been a lot of recent buzz around Jaden McDaniels as well. He is a top five recruit in the class of 2019, and Kentucky has been recruiting him hard. His trainer recently said, “Kentucky is gonna get that boy.” The trainer did not use McDaniel’s name, but it was clear that he was talking about him. If Kentucky were to get all three players, then this would easily be Calipari’s best recruiting class yet. Even if Kentucky only got one of these three players they would have the number one class in the nation. If the Cats get both McDaniels and Juzang, they will by far have the number one class in the nation. Senior Matthew Johnson seems confident about two of the players, but he is not sure about the other, “We’re gonna get Juzang and McDaniels, but I think Hampton is going to Kansas.” Clark Ramey, 12, is excited about the upcoming class. “This could be our best one yet and I don’t even think we’re done.” Junior Jerry Goins is going to be pleased with whoever comes to Kentucky. “I would be happy with one because they are all ridiculously good players.” Kentucky recruiting has always been good, but this year could be better than most.
