Hello and welcome back to another movie review. The lucky movie this week is Creed II, directed by Steven Caple and starring Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Dolph Lundgren, and Florian Munteanu. Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed, who is challenged to a fight against Victor Drago, son of Ivan Drago who killed Adonis’s father in Rocky IV. Adonis has to choose between his pride and his loved ones, as the Drago family hopes to achieve glory again by defeating Adonis and reclaiming the honor that they lost after Rocky beat Ivan in his home country of the USSR. Creed is a great, well rounded movie that lives up to the first one. While the Rocky franchise does struggle with repetitive themes, the story and characters is very well done. Jordan and Stallone have good chemistry as the bond between Rocky and Adonis develops into one of father and son. The fight scenes are very well choreographed and the cinematography is terrific.  The audience can feel every punch and jab that Viktor and Adonis throw at each other. The message is also terrific, as Stallone’s screenplay focuses on how important family is, and that glory and pride always come second to family. When I asked my dad and brother what they thought of the film, they said, “It was really good. Way better than Rocky IV and the best one I’ve seen since Rocky III.” I couldn’t have said it better, I give Creed II 4/4 and two big thumbs up.
