Farming across the state of Kentucky changes the lives of the people who live in the state, but also those who live across the nation. Everyone is related to farming one way or another, whether they work directly on a farm, like some students at LCA, or they eat the products that the farms produce, like most of the people around the world. As our world moves to a less patient lifestyle full of fast food and processed foods, we must ask ourselves how important is farming to our society and economy?

One benefit that most people do not immediately think about it is the number of jobs that farming supplies to the community. Not only does it give jobs to those who work the farms, but it also gives jobs to the those who package the food, those who transport it, those who buy the products from the farm, and a plethora of other jobs. According to United States Department of Agriculture, or the USDA, at least 11 percent of employment in the U.S. is related to agriculture and the industries that surround it.

Another advantage of farming is the health benefits. We have all heard that organic foods are better for us, but just how much better are they? Organic foods are more nutritious due to the absence of pesticides and fertilizers. Some experts even say that these pesticides and fertilizers are casing major diseases such as cancer to common things like headaches. These health benefits are what add to benefits of farming.

Farming is an activity that helps the economy and society unlike any other industry. Without the continuance of organic farming, we would see significant decreases in our health, and increases in unemployment. Agriculture is something that has been a staple for the United States since the beginning, and without it we would not be where we are today.
